About Our 2013-14 Corporate Responsibility Report
Sonoco used the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G3 Guidelines to define the content of our 2013-14 Corporate Responsibility Report. These guidelines form a voluntary framework of principles and indicators that are used to measure and report economic, environmental and social performance. They also provide a standard of comparison among Sonoco and our peers.
This year, we conducted our first materiality assessment of economic, environmental, and social issues. We engaged a Big Four consulting firm to perform a quantitative, stakeholder-driven assessment to identify and prioritize the sustainability issues material to Sonoco and its stakeholders. This report reflects our materiality assessment and the progress we have made in meeting our stakeholder commitments.
In this report, we carefully considered Company data and projects from 2013 and 2014 and how those projects relate to our customers, shareholders, employees, suppliers, and the communities in which we operate. Also, for the first time, we included performance data from manufacturing operations that were added through the acquisition of Tegrant Holding Corp., the largest in our Company's history.
